This extremely fine Five Rings silver minim, struck by a North Thames tribe c.55-45 BC, displays four elegant bands of rich, ripe barleycorns rotating sun-wise around four ringed pellets or ceremonial sun-shields. It must be its author’s personal signature and probably assured his followers of richer pay, in gold, when better times returned. Found at Freckenham in Suffolk in September 2022 at the same stretch of the upper Lark valley where the only other example known was also a found (a contemporary forgery struck in bronze and silver plated).
To be sold in Norwich, 17 March 2024, estimate £1000.
